Helpful Hints
- We have provided you with a few snack options to choose from each day. Read through each of the daily snacks and select the ones that work best for your groups.
- Share the theme connection for every snack and provide a sample to show the kids.
- When purchasing the food, be sure to factor in a little more for your volunteers. It’s always a good idea to buy more than you think you will need. The extra food can always be used throughout the week and at the Birthday Blast Party.
- Most of the food and supplies can be purchased a few days before the VBS. Determine the quantity of plates, bowls, cups and cutlery for each snack. Keep an eye out for sales in the weeks leading up to VBS.
- It is important that any information about participants or volunteers with food allergies get communicated to the snack leader. (see child registration forms)
- In addition to the recommended daily snack, provide fruit and veggies as alternatives for those who have food allergies. Make sure to provide dairy and gluten free options for the daily snack.
- To save on disposible cups, ask each child to bring a water bottle with their name on it.
- Have plenty of dish cloths and paper towels on hand for easy clean up.
- Have the children wash or wipe their hands before handling food.
- Do the After Snack Activities when the kids are finished their snack.
- Snack time on Friday may be shorter due to the adjusted Mass and Closing Party schedule. Be mindful to observe a one hour fast for those receiving Holy Communion.
- On Friday, the snack team can assist in setting up for the Birthday Blast Party.
-
You can choose to give Birthday Blast Balloon Cards as a reward for great behavior, winning a game, for answering questions, participating in activities, cleaning up, etc. At the closing Birthday Blast Party, kids can redeem Birthday Blast Balloon Cards for cool prizes. Be sure to confirm this with the VBS Director.

We have provided snacks that can be adapted for preschoolers each day. You may choose to have extra helpers in your station when working with kids ages 4-5.
