Holy Family Christmas Ornaments

Theme Connection:
Decorating a Christmas tree with ornaments is a beautiful family tradition and can be a great visual reminder of the Christmas story. Show a sample Holy Family ornament.
At the heart of the Christmas story is the Holy Family. Who is The Holy Family? (Jesus, Mary, and Joseph) Mary is Jesus’ mother, and Joseph was his earthly father.
Mary and Joseph cared for Jesus and showed us how to help each other. Just like them, we can share love in our families and be there for one another. As you make a Holy Family Christmas Tree Ornament, you can reflect on the story of Mary, Joseph, and Jesus and ask them to pray for your family.
You’ll Need:
- Wooden ornament shapes (2-3/child) (Approx. 3-4 inches)
- Ribbon
- Holy Family Ornament images (PDF) There are two different options provided.
- Markers
- Mod Podge (matte or glossy finish)
- Paintbrushes and scissors
- Stickers, gems, glitter, etc.
Activity:
1. Cut the circle images. Pre-cut for younger kids.
2. Write your name or initials on the top of the prayer.
3. Using a paintbrush, apply a thin layer of Mod Podge to the wooden shape where the image will go.
4. Place the image onto the wood, and then paint over the entire image with modge podge.
5. Repeat with the prayer on the back.
6. As it dries, cut the ribbon and string it through the top.
7. Decorate with stars, gems or glitter.
When using glitter, wait till the modge podge on the image is dry, and add another coat around the edge. Put the glitter on a paper plate, and tap the ornament on the glitter. Let it dry.
