Our Lady of Guadalupe

In 1531 Mary, Jesus’ mother, appeared in Mexico to a man named Juan Diego.

She appeared to him as a young Aztec princess, standing on the moon and clothed in a mantle of stars.

Soon a church was built in her honor and devotion to her spread all across Mexico.

She became known as Our Lady of Guadalupe, and the people saw her as a symbol of life.

She left us an image of herself that we can still visit in Mexico.

The image shows that she is expecting a child, and her head is bowed as a sign that she worships and bears the one true God.

After her apparition, Our Lady of Guadalupe inspired over 9 million Aztec people to become Catholic.

We can ask her to pray for us in times when we are feeling overwhelmed and in need of comfort.

She wants to be our Mother, and she can protect us as she leads us closer to her son Jesus.

Our Lady of Guadalupe, Pray for us.

Our Bible verse today says that God is our refuge. What do you think the word "refuge" means? 

A refuge is a place of protection or safety. We can feel protected and safe in the loving arms of God, our Heavenly Father. He cares for each of us and will always treasure us as His precious children.

 

 

Closing Prayer:

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. 

Heavenly Father, thank you for being the protector of our lives.

We pray for the weak, the sick, the elderly, the unborn and the poor.

Help us to reach out to them with compassion. Amen.
