Read the Saint story with your child and have them color the picture below
St. Martin de Porres
Martin was born in Lima, Peru. His father was a Spanish knight and his mother was a young black woman of Panama.
His father abandoned the family, so Martin grew up in poverty.
At the age of 15, Martin applied to join the Dominican Convent of the Rosary and became a Dominican brother.
Martin had a devotion to Our Blessed Mother and to Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament.
When he was 24, he was put in charge of taking care of the sick at the convent. It was then that miracles began to happen.
Martin would treat the sick by bringing them healing with only a simple glass of water.
He also had the gift of bilocation, meaning he could be in two different places at once.
His love for animals inspired him to set up a hospital for cats and dogs.
St. Martin is often pictured with a broom since he considered all work to be holy, no matter how small the job.

Connection Questions:
What’s the greatest gift we receive at Mass? Jesus in the Eucharist
Can you tell me what the word Eucharist means? Thanksgiving
Why is the Eucharist so important in our lives? It feeds our soul, helps us get closer to Jesus, it strengthens us to live as better Christians, it unites us as Catholics, it helps us get to Heaven, etc.
Share with your child what the Eucharist means to you. You can tell them about your First Communion, what you love about going to Mass, adoration or a personal story about the Sacrament of the Eucharist.
Closing Prayer
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
Jesus, thank you for the great gift of the Mass. Help us to have a heart of gratitude and to believe you are truly present in the sacrament of the Eucharist. We praise you, we thank you, we love you, Jesus. Amen.
