St. Kateri Tekakwitha
Kateri was born in the Mohawk fortress of Ossernenon in New York. Her father was a Mohawk chief and her mother was a Catholic Algonquin.
When Kateri was very young, there was a sickness that killed her father, mother and baby brother.
Kateri also got very sick. When she recovered, she was adopted by her uncle.
At the age of 20, Kateri was baptized on Easter Sunday by a wonderful missionary priest named Fr. Jacques. Many people in Kateri’s community would treat her badly because of her faith in God, but she continued to persevere and remain strong in her faith.
She escaped to a Catholic community in Quebec, Canada to find safety.
It is there that she lived the rest of her life dedicated to prayer, penance and caring for the sick.
Kateri Tekakwitha died at the young age of 24.
Her last words were, “Jesus, I love you!”

Connection Question:
Who is the Holy Spirit?
The Holy Spirit is the third person in the Trinity. (God is Father, Son and Holy Spirit). He is the “Helper” that Jesus talks about in the Bible verse today. The Holy Spirit is powerful and moving in our hearts.
Share with your child what the Holy Spirit means to you. You can tell them a personal story about the Sacrament of Confirmation.
Closing Prayer:
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
Jesus, thank you for sending us your Holy Spirit to guide us on our journey.
We ask you, Holy Spirit, to help us persevere in sharing our faith with others through our words and actions. Amen.
