St. Padre Pio
Francesco Forgione, also known as Padre Pio, was born to poor peasant farmers in the small village of Pietrelcina, Italy.
At the age of 6, Francesco desired to become a priest. At the age of 15, he joined the Capuchins friary where he received the name Brother Pio.
He endured lots of suffering during his studies, but he never gave up his dream to become a priest. There were many miracles in Padre Pio’s life.
On September 20, 1918, Padre Pio had special graces to receive the Wounds of Christ, also known as “Stigmata.”
Padre Pio’s hands, feet, and side bled for the rest of his life until his death, when the wounds completely disappeared.
He also received the gift to read people’s souls and bilocate, where he could be in two different places at once.
He spent many hours each day hearing confessions. He would often say, “Pray, hope and don’t worry.”
St. Padre Pio, Pray for us.
Connection Questions:
What is sin? Sin is when we freely choose to say or do something wrong; it is an offense against God. (CCC #1850)
Sin stains our soul and makes our hearts unclean and impure.
What are some ways we sin and turn away from God? Disobeying mom or dad, lying, fighting or hurting a brother or sister, using bad words, etc.
What are the great things about the sacrament of Confession (Reconciliation)? When we confess our sins to a priest, God wipes away our sins (all the bad things we’ve done or said). God gives us the gift of a special grace in our soul. He fills us with His peace so we can experience a fresh start.
Closing Prayer:
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
Loving and forgiving God, please help us to understand that sometimes our choices bring sorrow and pain to ourselves and others. Thank you for your constant love for us and for healing our hearts. Amen.
